A giant Hollywood-style Beanotown sign appeared on Dundee’s skyline.

Erected just below the summit of the city’s highest point, the Law Hill, the giant white letters were visible from both near and far and could be seen from Fife, on the other side of the River Tay.
The sign – 38 metres long and six metres high – was put up under a cloak of secrecy in mid July 2022 and remained in place until the end of the month.

Celebrating Dundee as the home of publishers DC Thomson & Co Ltd and their famous Beano comic, it promoted the Dundee Summer (Bash) Streets Festival, a celebration of the city’s famous cartoon characters, among them Dennis the Menace and Gnasher and the Bash Street Kids, which ran until July 24.
NOTE: The Beanotown sign has now been removed.
