A faceless and rather drab office block in one of Dundee’s trading estates has been transformed thanks to the work of graffiti artists… and all with the permission of the owner.
Dunsinane House, on the Dunsinane Industrial Estate, is awash with colour and certainly stands out from neighbouring office blocks and warehouses thanks to a project based upon the 5Pointz project in New York where the owner of a factory commissioned graffiti artists to curate exterior murals.
Local businessman Derek Mawhinney bought the empty two-storey block in June 2021 for £200,000 with a view to turning it into a thriving community business centre complete with offices, work areas and creative spaces. However, ahead of the renovation, he invited graffiti artists to decorate the rather bland brick and blue panel facade and, with the aid of some scaffolding, they got to work as part of the Dundee Graffiti Jam 2021.
